Adoption

Adoption is the legal process that creates a permanent parent-child relationship, awarding the adoptive parent or parents the same legal rights as those inherent to biological parents. When this legal parent-child relationship is established, it creates all the legal rights and responsibilities that come with being a parent.

Most adoptions are “uncontested,” meaning all parties have agreed that the adoption is in the best interest of the minor child or children and the biological parents have given their consent to allow the adoption. The most common type of adoptions we deal with are “step-parent adoptions”.

If you are a parent considering relinquishing your rights, consider consulting with an adoption attorney, as the decision is permanent. Likewise, if you are a considering adopting a minor child or your step-child, there may be factors you want to consider before making such a commitment.
