Leigh Reynolds Byers

“I think solving problems makes the world a better place. As a lawyer, I can protect my clients and find the best solution.”— Leigh Byers

Leigh grew up in a family of judges and litigators. Although the law was in her DNA, she sought a way to marry her concern for the welfare of families with her legal acumen. Today she uses her experience and creativity to thoughtfully guide her clients through the legal process. With an understanding that clients facing family disputes often have their entire lives and fortunes at stake, Leigh navigates family law with the utmost capability and compassion.

Leigh grew up in Bessemer, Alabama and earned her Bachelor of Social Work, graduating cum laude from the University of Alabama in 2002. She moved to Los Angeles and worked in finance before returning to the University of Alabama to pursue her law degree in 2004. She gained her first hands-on legal experience working with the school’s Elder Law Clinic and Hurricane Katrina Relief Program.

Returning to Birmingham, Leigh began her legal career at Legal Services Alabama, a statewide non-profit organization serving the state’s indigent and legally under-serviced population. There, she practiced in a wide range of legal disciplines, including elder law, foreclosure defense, bankruptcy, and consumer rights.

Although skilled in various areas of the law, Leigh’s ability to listen deeply to her clients and provide solid counsel made her a natural at family law. While working at The Crittenden Firm, she met Frances Nolan and they discovered a mutual concern for their clients and a desire to provide legal options beyond litigation. “We inspired each other,” she says. “We wanted to create a service for the community.”

Individual Consideration and Empathetic Approach

Today, Leigh often works with people with limited resources. Regardless of their means, her goal is to find the most efficient and peaceful path for her clients. Although she is a skilled litigator, she often cautions clients to stay out of the courtroom if it will not serve their best interests in the long run. “I’ve got to learn your story before I can begin to give you credible legal advice,” she says. “My strength is handling the everyday problems that most people have when going through the process of divorce. “

Leigh and her husband, Adam, live in Bluff Park with their young daughter, Jane, who she credits for making her a better attorney. “You can’t understand being a parent until you are one,” she says. “I can really relate to my clients with young children. It’s important to understand that relationship in order to help them through this process.”
